Did You Know?

In NC, 1 in 5 women and girls between ages 12 and 44 live below the federal poverty line and cannot afford everyday essentials.

Everyday essentials: Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, menstrual supplies, body wash, washcloths, lotion & hand sanitizer.

What would you do if you couldn't afford any of these today?

In the US, 1 in 4 teenage girls have missed class due to a lack of period supplies. A $20 donation would keep one girl in school this month.

A donation of $109.48 can prevent a single mother from choosing between groceries for her family and everyday essentials

Basic everyday essentials cost an average of $1,313.76 per year and are not accessible within WIC, FNS, and SNAP

Be A Part Of The Future Of No Woman, No Girl

80% of NC Young Women go without everyday essentials and No Woman, No Girl needs your help to make sure every girl and woman is reached. Your help could directly provide everyday essential hygiene items that allow women and girls to show up each and every day with the confidence they need to take on the world. If No Woman, No Girl has already served over 800 women since 2021 imagine what they could do with your help: expanding their efforts further than the Triangle area, increasing the amount of hygiene products provided to each female, growing their team and increasing the amount of work they are able to do in schools, homeless shelters and additional outreach experiences. The possibilities are endless and we hope that you join us in paving the way for No Woman, No Girl.

Meet Shirnetta Harrell,

As NWNG founder and executive director, Shirnetta Harrell, began her career as a social worker in residential treatment facilities, schools and foster care systems, she quickly discovered the need that girls and women had for accessing hygiene essentials.

"I would have students say "Mrs. Harrell, I'm not coming to school because my mom doesn't have enough money to buy pads for my period" or "I haven't washed my hair in months," says Shirnetta. These conversations became such a common occurrence for Shirnetta and something she knew she needed to change! In making it her mission to find a nonprofit to help with this underlying issues, Shirnetta discovered that there simply wasn't one so she decided to be that resource herself.

In February of 2021, The No Woman No Girl Initiative was created and since then has helped over 800 women and girls experiencing crisis or transition gain access to everyday hygiene essentials critical to survive. Today, NWNG continues to grow immensely as they work closely with local nonprofits that are struggling to provide everyday hygiene essentials for those seeking help, as well as social workers, case workers and outreach workers.
